At Denman Construction, we are committed to our clients and our team. We have just over a dozen employees, many who have been with us for ten or more years. As a team, each one of us is dedicated to the highest level of standards and workmanship on all our projects. Through our construction experience and our professional commitment, the lifelong relationships developed have become the cornerstone of Denman Construction.

Craig

Craig Denman, Founder and President since 1977

Hometown: Brookings, SD

Craig, having grown up in a building family, has been gaining construction experience since a very young age. While he worked alongside his father, Roger, during summers and college breaks, learning the trade first hand, his father’s dream of becoming a supreme builder became his own.

Craig’s college education trained him in Architectural Drafting and Engineering. His training and demand for precise design and quality craftsmanship is what gives Denman Construction an edge over the competition. After college, Craig worked as an Architectural Draftsman for over a year before starting his own construction business in 1977.

What path brought you here? I fell in love with Montana the first time I came to visit with my cousin for a hunting trip. From then on, I knew this is where I needed to be.

What’s your favorite outdoor activity? Really everything, but fishing would be at the top of the list.

What’s the best vacation you’ve ever been on? Peru. Getting lost in Peru with my two sons for two weeks – finally finding civilization the third week.

What food is always in your fridge? Eggs and beer. What else do you need.

What’s the one thing you can’t live without? God in my life.

If you were to write a book about yourself, what would the title be? Lost in My Own Imagination

What’s your favorite part about working at Denman Construction? The people and the lifelong relationships made make this the best job I could ever imagine.     

Bill

Bill Rice, Vice President of Construction since 1996

Hometown: Warren, PA

Bill joined the construction industry in 1978, learning the masonry trade. He started his own business in 1982, specializing in fireplaces and veneers of stone and brick. With his background in all aspects of construction and building three homes of his own, Bill provides a strong knowledge of the entire building process, which is invaluable to Denman Construction and our clients.

Currently, Bill is in charge of the construction department, and he oversees estimating and project management. Bill enjoys working directly with clients and helping them create their dream home.

What path brought you here? 18 wheels and The Asphalt Jungle 

What’s your favorite outdoor activity? Water activities and hunting

What can most people do that you cannot? Order something different at their favorite restaurant

What’s the best vacation you’ve ever been on? 1972-1978

What’s the one thing you can’t live without? Something to do everyday

If you could be any animal, what would you be? A dog that lives on a farm and chases cows, rides in tractors, and basks in the sun.

If you were to write a book about yourself, what would the title be? From There to Here, and Still Alive (The life and times of me)

What’s your favorite part about working at Denman Construction? Working with awesome people. Independence but with the greater good in mind. It’s an interesting business to be in – many diverse people, many diverse ideas and concepts, all working together to take sticks and bricks and putting them together to make a home.

Troy

Troy Denman, Construction Manager since 1995

Hometown: Kalispell, MT

Troy coordinates and supervises all of the work done on-site, whether by employees or trade contractors.  He brings creativity, attention to detail, and a love for problem solving to every job. By meeting with the project manager, architects, and clients, Troy ensures that the home is built according to plans, schedules, and building codes.

What path brought you here? Family

What’s your favorite outdoor activity? Everything outdoors. I spend as much time as I can skiing, mountain biking, hiking, and climbing.

What’s the best vacation you’ve ever been on? Traveling around Europe for months.

What’s the one thing you can’t live without? Family and toys

If you were to write a book about yourself, what would the title be? Stress and Fun

What’s your favorite part about working at Denman Construction? Working with great people, creating friendships, and witnessing the amazing process of transforming created lines on paper into beautiful homes.

Travis

Travis Denman, Architectural Designer since 2010

Hometown: Kalispell, MT

Travis is involved in multiple aspects of Denman Construction, primarily working as an architectural designer, but also playing a role in project management, client relations, and occasionally onsite supervision. Travis’ architectural and management skills have helped him maintain a solid understanding of each project from the early design stages through construction completion.

What path brought you here? Born into it. And I love it.

What inspires your architectural drawing? Asia and Japan. They have a phenomenal through process to their layouts and spacial relationships. I spent 4 months studying in Asia, Thailand, Korea, Nepal, and Japan. It was an amazing experience.

What’s your favorite outdoor activity? I share a passion with many people that live in the Flathead Valley:  including skiing, fishing, and anything else the great outdoors has to offer.

What food is always in your fridge? Ketchup

Who’s home would you like to tour? Bill Gates home on Lake Washington. He has clothing pins programed to change the digital artwork, lighting, shades, etc to fit your liking as you walk into the home. Amazing.

What’s the one thing you can’t live without? My kids and wife

What’s your favorite part about working at Denman Construction? The atmosphere: a company with strong ethics and expectations and amazing people.

Jennifer

Jennifer Khoury, Vice President of Operations since 2001

Hometown: Kingsford, MI

Jennifer has several years of experience in the accounting and personnel fields, and is truly an asset to the Denman Construction office. Jennifer currently oversees the office and all financial operations. Her current responsibilities include Accounts Receivable, Human Resource Management, Payroll, and Financial Statements.

What path brought you here? My husband’s love for hunting and the mountains, and my love for wide open spaces.

What’s your favorite outdoor activity? Taking the family on the boat to the reservoir and going fishing and swimming.

If you could tour anyone’s home, whose would it be? Audrey Hepburn’s

What can most people do that you cannot? Walk up staircases that you can see through or don’t have hand rails (even safety rails don’t make me feel safe)!

What’s the one thing you can’t live without? Chocolate

If you were to write a book about yourself, what would the title be?  Don’t Forget Your Lunch

What’s your favorite part about working at Denman Construction?  The people.  You can count on anyone of them to help out, whenever needed.  We’re blessed to have a great group that are like family.

AJ

AJ Willits, Construction Manager since 2004

Hometown: Kalispell, MT

AJ coordinates and supervises all of the work done on-site, whether by employees or trade contractors. He loves the diversity of working on site, as well as the precision and integrity it requires. He meets with the architects, interior designers, and clients to ensure that the home is built according to plans, schedules and building codes. He reviews job progress and provides carpentry services when needed.

What path brought you here? I grew up with Travis and have a love for building.

What’s your favorite outdoor activity? Anything outside – hunting, fishing, hiking, and backcountry skiing… you name it. That’s why I love it here.

What’s the best vacation you’ve ever been on? Alaska

What food is always in your fridge? Ketchup

If you could be any animal, what would you be? Wolverine

If you were to write a book about yourself, what would the title be? Life of AJ

What’s your favorite part about working at Denman Construction? I always have something to do, every day is different and I love it.

Rich

Rich Piatkowski, Project Manager since 2006

Hometown: Cranford, New Jersey

Rich has been working as a construction manager since 2003. He is driven to complete a home but more importantly, to see out the vision of every project. Rich has also worked with Habitat for Humanity and is a LEED certified AP, a green building leadership certification. LEED is transforming the way we think about how buildings and communities are designed, constructed, maintained and operated. Rich works and communicates with the architect, designers, and clients to create a home that exceeds expectations.

What path brought you here? My backyard growing up was the New York skyline, which was great, but my passion is with Montana’s big sky.

What’s your favorite outdoor activity? I love doing anything outdoors. I’ve spent my former life as an outdoor adventure guide and long-distance hiker: running rivers, snowboarding, and completing through hikes of both the Appalachian Trail and the Pacific Crest Trail. 

What can most people do that you cannot? Go to a fast food drive-through.

What food is always in your fridge? Homegrown food from my garden.

What’s the one thing you can’t live without? My Family

What’s your favorite part about working at Denman Construction? Working with great people and witnessing a clients dreams become reality.

Paul

Paul Walker, Project Manager since 2011

Hometown: Rock Springs, WY

Growing up, Paul was in the concrete and framing business during his high school and college summers. Paul graduated from South Dakota State University with a Bachelor of Science in Construction Managment and immediately started working as a project manager after graduation. Paul’s passion for building and working on projects is evident with his day to day duties in the office and in the field. Paul meets with the clients, architects, interior designers, and all subcontractors to make sure all the details come together in the building process.

What path brought you here? I chose a place on the map to get back to the mountains.

What’s your favorite outdoor activity? Floating on the water or snow, camping, hiking, hunting… your choice, I’m not picky.

What’s the best vacation you’ve ever been on? Vacation is for retirement.

Weapon of choice for the zombie apocalypse? Bulldozer

What food is always in your fridge? Meat.

What’s your favorite part about working at Denman Construction? Every project and homeowner is different, which makes each day different from the last. Working with a great team, building people’s dream homes, and creating lifelong relationships.

Tracy

Tracy Osler, Estimator/Project Manager since 2013

Hometown: Great Falls, MT

Tracy falls in line from a long tradition of Dutch builders. Her passion for constantly building or remodeling comes honestly from her grandmother’s genes. She earned her degree in Construction Engineering Technology from Montana State University in Bozeman, Montana.

Tracy worked extensively for a civil engineer for quite awhile. She began residential construction in 1998 with a focus in estimating and project development which she now continues at Denman Construction. In addition to her work at Denman, Tracy serves on the board for The Nurturing Center in Kalispell, Montana. She helps them build and develop playhouses for children and families in need.

What’s your favorite outdoor activity? Pontooning with friends

What’s the best vacation you’ve ever been on? A road trip after college in a $500 orange Saab down the Oregon coastline with my new husband.

Who’s house would you like to tour? The White House

What’s the one thing you can’t live without? Laughter

If you could be any animal, what would you be? Carol’s lap dog. She is always so sweet to those dogs, they are so spoiled.

If you were to write a book about yourself, what would the title be? 6 Feet of Fabulous

What’s your favorite part about working at Denman Construction? Being part of the Denman Family. It’s a good place to be everyday.

Brett

Brett Diede, Project Manager since 2003

Hometown: Laurel, MT

Brett coordinates and supervises all work done on-site, whether by employees or trade contractors for our remodel and new construction projects. He brings hard work, attention to detail, and a love for problem solving to every job. By meeting with the project manager, architects, and clients, Brett ensures that the home is built according to plans, schedules, and building codes.

What path brought you here? I thought I would try construction instead of delivery. That turned out to be a very good decision. I love building.

What’s your favorite outdoor activity? Anything outside.

What can most people do that you cannot? Anything on computers.

What’s the best vacation you’ve ever been on? I went to Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon, Lake Hausa, and drove all over the place.

What food is always in your fridge? Ketchup

What’s the one thing you can’t live without? Mtn. Dew

What’s your favorite part about working at Denman Construction? Everyone is great to work with.

Ryan

Ryan Espenson, Site manager since 2013

Hometown: Port Townsend, WA

Ryan built a strong background in construction during his time in Washington, then came to Denman with the skills and ambition to tackle any punch list. Ryan’s experience in custom woodworking, cabinetry, and yacht project management brings a unique and skilled eye to each project he is on. From hardware to custom finishes, Ryan takes care of all the final details in finishing a home.

What path brought you here? Dumb luck. I loaded a Uhaul and drove out here

What’s your favorite outdoor activity? Hiking – AKA getting lost in the woods

What’s the best vacation you’ve ever been on? Belize

What’s the one thing you can’t live without? Air

Anne

Carol Anne Ortel, Administrative Assistant since 2012

Hometown: Cherry Hill, NJ

Carol has an extensive background within the hospitality field and brings her experience to our front desk at the office. She has also worked as a human resources specialist as well as a classroom aid for the kindergarten class at Trinity Luthern in Kalispell, Montana. Carol assists Jennifer with all the accounts payable and takes care of all the office secretarial and receptionist duties. She is most likely to greet you with a smile when you walk into the office.

Who’s home would you like to tour? President Reagan’s Rancho del Ceilo. He was my favorite President.

What’s the best vacation you’ve ever been on? West Palm Beach, Florida when I was 28 years old

What is your dream home? A house that overlooks the ocean – like a lighthouse, a structure that seems as if it’s been there for hundreds of years.

If you were to write a book about yourself, what would the title be? The Edge of Repose

What’s your favorite part about working at Denman Construction? The spirit of compassion, selflessness, ethical approach, cooperation, and generosity that exists here in every direction.

Madeline

Madeline Boyle, Creative Director 2011

Hometown: Gretna, NE

Madeline has a background in Fine Art that has lead her from Nebraska to Alabama, New York, and Montana. Under her creative direction, the marketing and graphic design for Denman Construction aims to communicate our standards and philosophy of building. Madeline also assists in home staging, interior selections, and client presentations.

What path brought you here? I first drove through Montana after graduating college. I fell in love. I moved from New York City to Bozeman for my Master in Fine Art. My husband’s job brought us to Whitefish. It really is “the last best place.”

What’s your favorite outdoor activity? Biking the Going to the Sun road in late spring, hiking, cross country skiing, and fishing on the river in our drift boat.

What can most people do that you cannot? Stick to a budget

What food is always in your fridge? Real butter

If you were to write a book about yourself, what would the title be? Draw The Line

What’s your favorite part about working at Denman Construction? The people. I have never been so proud to say I’m apart of a company. I hold a lot of integrity in the work I do and I know everyone else is the same way. I truly feel that we are one big family.
